EnergySmart is one of the largest energy renovation contractors in Vermont. Over the past 30 years, we’ve helped thousands of Vermont homeowners make their homes more comfortable and energy efficient.

All of our 20 employees are building science professionals who care about their work. They believe in treating people and their homes with dignity and respect. But it goes beyond that. Our employees are personally dedicated to serving their clients, helping them fix problems in their homes so they can be healthier, more comfortable, and save money.

With a greater depth of experience and higher level of training, our staff consistently delivers excellent results. In fact, their work is repeatedly recognized by Efficiency Vermont as being among the best in the state’s energy retrofit industry.

We Believe in Old-School Customer Service

While we use modern techniques in our energy renovation work, we’re stubbornly old-school when it comes to providing excellent customer service. We believe in being attentive, reliable, and helpful – three qualities that are in short supply in today’s hectic world. Here are some of the other things that set us apart:

  • Energy efficiency is our sole focus. We’re not contractors who do energy efficiency as a sideline, or as a way to get remodeling jobs.
  • We do work faster, with less disruption. Once we start a job, we finish it before moving on. We won’t disappear and leave you hanging.
  • Our product is better. The work is done right with higher-quality materials, and with better-trained employees.
  • We stand behind our work. If there is a mistake, we’ll gladly fix it.

100% of Profits Go To The Community

EnergySmart is a program of Capstone Community Action (formerly Central Vermont Community Action Council), a Central Vermont institution that has been operating for more than 50 years. We’re part of a large, stable organization that will be around for the long term.

Because EnergySmart is a social enterprise of Capstone, we have a unique mission. Our energy renovation work helps fund our parent organization’s charitable endeavors. To read more about Capstone Community Action and its work in Vermont, visit capstonevt.org.

We develop project estimates like any other construction company, and we pay our staff a fair wage for the demanding work they do. But instead of profits flowing back to the owners of the business, the profits from our contracting projects flow back into the community. They help fund the Food Shelf and other Capstone Community Action efforts in our region.

Our Certifications

We are a certified Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor, which means that we have been certified by Efficiency Vermont to offer energy assessments and renovation services to all Vermonters.

We’re also certified by the Building Performance Institute, which sets the standards for building efficiency, and has developed the protocols for testing buildings and performing energy-efficient renovations. All of our staff members are trained by this national organization.
